LAND PHIL

We’re so glad you’re here.
Let’s love our Land Phil.

So, here’s
the deal.

Land Phil lives on Bluff Road in Lincoln. He’s big. One hundred seventy-one acres, as a matter of fact. (But, hey, who’s counting?) He needs constant care to stay tidy. But, he does a whole heap of good for our community, and we could do some things that would make his life a whole lot better.

Sometimes, it’s easy to throw things in the trash because it seems like they just disappear.

But…they don’t. They go to Phil. ALL unwanted items and trash go to Phil. He handles it all beautifully. As it turns out, though, some things aren’t good for him.

He can’t stomach recyclables. Food scraps give him gas. And, generally, Land Phil is filling up on recyclables and usable food faster than he should be. That’s where you come in. If we can love Land Phil a little better, we’ll all benefit.

How can you love Land Phil better?

Let us count the ways.

SEND PHIL

LESS STUFF.

Before sending something through the garbage to Land Phil, ask yourself:

Is this
really
trash?
Can I still
use it?
Can I
clean it?
Can I fix
it?
Can I
donate
it?

Sending Phil less stuff is the best way to keep him from piling up too quickly. And there are so many great ways to use and dispose less!

PHIL
DOESN’T LIKE RECYCLABLES.

It’s just one of his quirks. If it can be recycled, he doesn’t want it. That means paper, aluminum, tin, certain plastics, and cardboard—they can go other places, and they should. All of Lincoln’s trash collectors offer recycling add-ons, which make it convenient to incorporate recycling into your everyday routine.

If you live in an apartment, or you can’t subscribe to a recycling add-on service at your home, there are recyclables collection sites around town waiting for you. Find where your closest collection site is below.

FOOD SCRAPS
GIVE PHIL

GAS.

Wasted food is our biggest opportunity to change how quickly Land Phil grows. And the best way to limit food waste is to do a little bit of homework.

How to NOT feed Phil

Shop
with Purpose

Before you get to the grocery store, get a solid plan together. Make sure you’re only buying what you’ll be able to eat before it spoils. You’ll also save a pretty penny when you check out!

Store
with Strategy

Putting the foods that will spoil soonest at the front of your fridge and pantry shelves means it’ll be easier to use your goods before they go bad.

Freeze!

Many food items can be frozen before they go bad! Do Phil a favor and freeze what you can before tossing it in the trash.
